California worker suffers fatal work injury, other hospitalized

Construction work in general can be hazardous and lead to serious injuries. During the summer months, any construction needed at high schools in California may typically be conducted at this time so as to be completed before students return to school. Two construction workers at a California high school were recently involved in an incident that led to a work injury for both, including a fatal injury for one.

The two workers were putting up scaffolding near the football field. There were electrical wires nearby. One of the men came into contact with the wire, and the second man did also as he tried to help the first.

The first man was electrocuted. The second man tried to resuscitate that worker and then stood up. He too came into contact with the power lines and received an electric shock. That man was transported to a nearby hospital and was reported to be in critical condition. Reportedly, both workers were said to be in their 20s.

The incident was being investigated by the California division of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Whenever a work injury such as this occurs, any California worker who needs medical attention can typically rely on his or her workers' compensation benefits to cover the costs of medical bills or other expenses related to the accident. For workers who are fatally injured on the job, certain death benefits are normally available for the families left behind. Anyone injured or in the construction field in general may benefit from understanding their rights and benefits in the event of an injury.
