1 suffers work injury at construction site

One man recently suffered serious injuries in a work-related accident involving a piece of excavating equipment at an out-of-state construction site. The accident occurred on a recent Tuesday morning in March, authorities say. When California workers suffer a work injury, they typically choose to file a workers' compensation claim in relation to the accident.

The accident occurred around 9 a.m. According to the authorities, the 22-year-old out-of-state man was working as part of a construction crew that was in the process of installing pipes underground that were to become part of an irrigation canal for the area. Deputies involved in the case believe that the man was walking behind a track-hoe while the machine was moving.

Authorities think that as the track-hoe began to reverse over the muddy terrain, the man slipped and fell directly in its path. The machine's tracks ran over the man's legs. Other workers on the job site heard the man's calls for help and managed to get the attention of the driver, who stopped the machine immediately. First responders arrived at the scene, and EMTs treated the man. The victim was then taken by pickup truck to the nearest road where an ambulance was waiting to rush him to a local hospital in Cache Valley, Utah; the victim had significant leg injuries.

This incident is currently being investigated and might be considered an industrial accident, with no criminal charges likely. Regardless of the outcome of the investigation, the worker will legally be entitled to submit a workers' compensation claim. Successfully filed, this claim could help ease some of the financial setbacks that may result from this work injury. Workers in California and elsewhere typically consult an experienced workers' compensation attorney for assistance in the process of submitting a claim.
