California construction workers: how to protect the family

On Behalf of | Sep 7, 2012 | Industrial Workers' Accidents |

Sadly, during the course of a year, workers are killed in on-the-job accidents in California and across the country. The emotional and financial strain that the families of deceased construction workers must face is often considerable. Fortunately, in those instances when such a tragedy does strike, they may be able receive assistance. This assistance, which normally comes in the form of workers’ compensation death benefits, may serve an extremely useful purpose while a family tries to come to terms with the unthinkable events which occurred.

In a recent case, one family is dealing with such a tragedy. It was reported that a construction worker, identified as being 41 years old, was recently killed in a construction accident. The accident is believed to have occurred when the man entered into a trench to attach a chain to a septic tank that he was working to remove.

When the man entered the trench, reports say, the bucket-ended arm of a backhoe apparently swung around and hit the man in the head. The man then became pinned between the backhoe bucket and the wall of the trench. Investigators have determined that the man’s death was an accident.

California construction workers face danger every day at work, and it may only take a matter of a few moments for the fabric of the worker’s family to change forever. During such a tragic time, it may be of the utmost importance to ensure that the family is taken care of financially as they struggle to accept what happened and move on with their lives. In such a case, California workers’ compensation death benefits are often tapped to serve this purpose. It’s a purpose that can make all the difference in ensuring that the family’s emotional tragedy does not become a financial one as well.
