A total of four people were transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries following a collision on Highway 14 near Sand Canyon Road recently. According to authorities, two California highway workers suffered an injury on the job while the other two individuals treated for injuries were passengers in the van involved in the incident. The accident remains under investigation.

Reports indicate the accident occurred in the northbound lanes of Highway 14 just after 3 a.m. The initial investigation suggests that the construction workers had parked their construction vehicle and trailer in the northbound lane number 2 of the highway. The two workers were picking up construction signs along the highway in front of their vehicle at the time of the accident.

The California Highway Patrol says the driver of the van was traveling northbound in lane number 3 at approximately 60 mph when the vehicle entered lane number 2. Upon doing so, the vehicle collided with the parked construction vehicle and trailer. Reports suggest the force of the collision pushed the parked vehicle into the two highway workers.

As the investigation continues, undoubtedly more details of the accident will be released by authorities. As of the time of this writing, no information was available as to the medical condition of the two highway workers who suffered an injury on the job. The two passengers of the van involved were said to have been treated for minor injuries. The two highway workers are likely covered under the California workers’ compensation statutes. These important benefits provide for payment of the their medical care and related expenses as well as lost income from work so they can focus on recovering and getting back to work in good health.
