Working construction along the road can be a particularly dangerous field for anyone whether they are just starting out of have been in the industry for years. Someone on a road crew is essentially at the mercy of the drivers who pass by them. In California, a young construction worker was fatally injured on the job while working alongside the road.
The 18-year-old man had just started in the field of road construction. He was working when police were attempting to pull over a pickup truck at an intersection nearby. As police tried to pull him over, the 31-year-old driving the pickup truck sped up and ended up driving right through a construction zone.
The construction worker was killed as a result of the accident. The driver who was in the pickup truck was arrested and charged with DUI. There may be charges of vehicular manslaughter pending against the driver who caused the fatal accident, but that has yet to be determined.
Any worker who is injured on the job in California has rights and protections, and they may gain by ensuring that they and their family are aware of the details of those benefits. If a worker is fatally injured on the job, such as the case with this young man, the family left behind is normally entitled to certain death benefits and protections according to California workers' compensation laws. Those financial benefits could help the victim's family deal with the financial ramifications of his death, including lost income for dependents, medical bills and funeral costs.
