Many jobs require driving company or government vehicles. Employees are typically highly trained and the state of the vehicles is definitely kept track of to ensure the safety of both workers who have to drive employer or government vehicles and for the safety of the general public. However, regardless of safety measures and practices, California workers driving a government vehicle can still suffer a work injury.
There was a recent accident that involved a U.S. Border Patrol vehicle in California. The government vehicle was going through an intersection when a woman in a Toyota ran a red light and hit the Border Patrol vehicle, according to witnesses. The accident happened at night and is under investigation.
The woman who hit the Border Patrol vehicle needed to be extricated from her SUV. She died at a local hospital from the injuries she suffered. The Border Patrol agent was also taken to the hospital to receive treatment for minor injuries. The extent of the injuries was not reported.
The agent who was injured in the crash may have to take time off of work to recover from injuries. In California, there are laws and regulations to help those who have been the subject of a work injury and need to take time off to recover. Sometimes, that recovery can entail a hospital stay, physical therapy afterwards or even long term care that can greatly impact a workers ability to do their job.
