Fatal work injury takes the life of a California worker

Any kind of highway work can be dangerous, especially in the dark and the early morning hours. Workers are often very close to passing vehicles and risk potential work injury or worse if a driver loses control of a vehicle. Recently in California, two construction workers were hit by a car as they were working along the roadway.

The men were in the midst of taking down a sign that was next to a truck along the northbound side of the highway when they were struck. A Nissan, driven by a 20-year-old man, veered into both men. One worker, a 34-year-old, was killed at the scene. The other worker, a 26-year-old, was injured in the accident.

The driver of the car had to be extricated from the vehicle after the crash. He had major injuries, according to the police at the scene. He was subsequently arrested at the hospital because police believe he was driving under the influence at the time of the fatal accident.

The worker who passed away at the crash scene may have been the primary bread winner of his family and his loss could possibly create financial difficulties for any dependents. Moreover, unexpected funeral and burial expenses must now be confronted. The other man who suffered a work injury may have to miss work as he focuses on recovering from his injuries. The surviving family of the deceased worker and the injured workers are both likely entitled to workers’ compensation insurance benefits in California. Those benefits can help the family and the injured victim deal with the financial ramifications of being injured on the job.
