California explosion results in worker fatally injured on the job

| May 13, 2014 | Workplace Accidents |

Working in certain industries can entail a great deal of danger. However, most workers are supposed to be properly trained when they work in a high danger industry or around dangerous materials. Still, accidents happen. One such incident in California recently shows how someone can become injured on the job or worse when they work around tanker trucks.

The accident happened on a Tuesday when work was being done on a truck. There was apparently some welding being done on a petroleum tanker truck. An explosion occurred at the trucking company when the welding was being done.

The explosion was said to have caused a hole in the roof of the facility; however, it was noted that the blast didn’t lead to a fire. A 51-year-old employee at the Corona, California facility lost his life in the explosion. Another worker was transported to a medical facility and reported to be in critical condition. There were numerous other employees working on the truck at the time; however, they were not injured.

Safety officials are investigating the blast and their findings can result in a number of consequences or changes in operations to prevent a similar incident. An investigation may even provide validation that there is no culpability. Regardless of the outcome of an investigation, the worker who was injured on the job and the family of the man who lost his life may benefit from workers’ compensation and death benefits under California law. It is vital that any California worker who is injured on the job understand their rights and protections they are entitled to.
