Work injury suffered at California clothing plant

| Mar 16, 2015 | Workplace Accidents |

An industrial or factory job often entails the risk of injury simply due to the nature of the machinery that is operated at such locations. A clothing factory has many hazards as workers toil with heavy, dangerous and complex equipment. Recently in California, an employee suffered a work injury involving a machine at a plant.

The incident occurred at an American Apparel dyeing plant on a Tuesday morning. The accident occurred just after 5 a.m. The injured worker got his hands caught in a machine. Reportedly, it took more than 90 minutes to free him, after which he was rushed to a hospital.

A rescue team had to be called to extricate the worker. He was reported to be stable condition at the hospital. The company released a statement in regard to the incident, declaring that safety is a priority and that it supports the worker and his family as they deal with the injuries. There is a planned investigation by the California Division of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

A work injury can sideline a worker’s goals of providing for his or her family and advancing in a given employment field. Hand injuries can be particularly devastating for a factory or plant worker. This California worker may need time off work to recover before returning to his job, and he may need ongoing rehabilitation or treatment in order to recover. Typically, the worker is able to rely on workers’ compensation benefits to provide financial relief for lost wages, medical bills and other losses related to the work injury suffered.
