Roof collapses, construction worker suffers work injury

| Jul 30, 2015 | Industrial Workers' Accidents |

In regards to workplace danger in California, there is perhaps no other workplace environment that offers more danger than that of an industrial or construction worker. Between heavy machinery and the tools often required to get the job done, the average industrial and construction worker goes up against a slew of dangers while attending to his or her daily responsibilities. As a result of these dangerous environs, a work injury is often viewed as an unfortunate — if not inevitable — aspect of that specific line of work.

An construction accident in late July required a worker being rescued from the job site. According to the fire department, they rescued a male construction worker who had become trapped beneath a collapsed roof of a residential garage. The worker had been in the process of renovating the wood roof.

While renovating it, it suddenly collapsed, leaving him trapped beneath it, according to the fire department. Firefighters were quick to the scene and employed both air bags as well as wooden blocks to lift and support the roof in order to free the worker. The worker suffered moderate injuries. According to the authorities, the worker was freed 26 minutes after the call for help was answered. He was rushed to a local medical center.

In this case, it is probable that the injuries the worker suffered will force him to be out of work for a length of time. While unable to work, he might find himself accruing medical bills in addition to the pay he has lost, while he is waiting to fully recover. As it was a work injury, he is entitled to file a workers’ compensation claim in the state of California to recover some of these financial damages. By consulting with an experienced personal injury attorney, the worker can have an expert aid him in navigating the often complex process of filing for workers’ compensation.
