Construction worker suffers fatal work injury

On Behalf of | Dec 24, 2015 | Workplace Accidents |

A construction worker was recently killed as the result of an injury he suffered while working. The fatal work accident took place out of state on a recent Wednesday afternoon in December. When California individuals are killed in a work injury, their loved ones are typically entitled to file for workers’ compensation death benefits in order to help defray costs associated with fatal accidents such as these.

Police are currently investigating this fatal accident. The worker, a 32-year-old man, was an employee of a company that was subcontracted for tree removal services at the high school. The man had been in the process operating construction equipment at the time of the accident.

Rescue crews responded to the accident at the high school’s parking lot around 1:30 p.m. Upon their arrival, they found the worker crushed in the machine. He had to be removed from the equipment he had been operating. The circumstances that lead up to his death are still unclear, but local police and OSHA are investigating this fatal accident.

In California, when construction workers suffer a fatal work injury due to work accidents similar to this one, their dependents are typically entitled to file a workers’ compensation claim for death benefits. Successfully filed, these benefits result in payments to the decedent’s spouse, children or other dependents. There is also an allotment for end-of-life expenses and other documented losses the family incurred as a result of the accident in addition to future lost pay. The dependents typically choose to consult an experienced workers’ compensation attorney to assist them with this process.
