A construction worker was recently killed in a construction accident that occurred out of state. The accident occurred on a recent Wednesday morning in March. When California workers suffer a work injury — fatal or not — the victim or the victim’s family is entitled to file a claim for workers’ compensation.

The victim was a 50-year-old out-of-state man. The man was employed as a foreman for a company that had been hired to build a new power plant. The coroner has ruled his death as an accident and said blunt force trauma was the cause of death.

For reasons that are currently unclear, the man somehow became pinned between a trailer and a semi truck at the construction site. The 911 call was placed around 7:00 a.m. The man died before the medical helicopter could arrive. Construction on the city’s new power plant was immediately halted due to the accident.

When a construction worker suffers a fatal work injury while on the job in California, the victim’s dependents typically seek to file a workers’ compensation claim for death benefits. Successfully filed, these benefits result in payments to a spouse, children or other dependents and include an allotment for burial expenses. Although the financial compensation cannot do anything to bring the decedent back, this compensation can help to ameliorate some of the end-of-life expenses that are typically incurred by the decedent’s family. Loved ones typically consult an experienced workers’ compensation attorney for advice and to assist them with the filing process.
