A contractor with Southern California Edison was killed recently after being involved in a construction accident involving a crane. The contractor who suffered the fatal work injury was pronounced dead a short while later. The accident occurred in West Hollywood on a recent Tuesday in March, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The incident, which was reported a little after 4:00 p.m., occurred near the intersection of La Cienega and Sunset Boulevards, a supervisor with the Los Angeles County Fire Department said. It was described as an “industrial accident,” due to the fact that the victim was reportedly crushed between a crane and a trailer. The victim was rushed to a local hospital, where he was shortly pronounced dead.

The name of the victim in this incident has yet to be released, as the next of kin must first be notified. The boulevard has been closed as the Division of Occupational Safety and Health officials explored the construction area and conducted their investigation into the incident. According to the website of the city of West Hollywood, the road was to be closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday of this week, while Southern California Edison installs new power poles.

When a construction worker suffers a fatal work injury while on the job in California, his or her dependents typically seek to file a workers’ compensation claim for death benefits. When successfully filed, these benefits result in payments to the victim’s spouse, children or other dependents and include an allotment for burial expenses. Although the financial compensation cannot do anything to bring the decedent back, it can, however, help to ameliorate some of the end-of-life expenses typically incurred by a decedent’s family. Loved ones typically consult an experienced workers’ compensation attorney to assist them with this process.
