Man suffers fatal work injury at hotel construction site

On Behalf of | Jul 29, 2016 | Industrial Workers' Accidents |

Construction sites are bountiful in California, but not all of them are entirely safe. No matter the worker’s experience, he or she often faces a variety of dangers at every turn. When someone suffers a work injury, it may not always be immediately clear what caused it, which can leave other workers at risk until the safety inadequacy is discovered and addressed.

A construction worker was killed in a construction accident on a recent Monday afternoon in July. The incident occurred out of state. Local police say that a 58-year-old man fell from a four-story building.

The man was working on a hotel building on a parapet wall that was under construction when he fell, police said. He fell around 46 feet. Local EMS treated the worker at the scene before he was taken to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The man’s death seems to have been an accident, but an investigation by local police and the medical examiner’s office, as well as the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration is underway. When an accident results in a work injury or death, the worker — or, in the event of death, his or her family members — are fully within their legal rights to file workers’ compensation claims. Successfully navigated, these claims may help injured workers with costs typical of injuries of this nature, including hospital bills, lost pay and even physical therapy. If the worker dies due to the accident, the worker’s family will be entitled to workers’ compensation death benefits. When California workers are injured on the job, they typically choose to consult an experienced workers’ compensation attorney to assist them with this process.
