Construction workers’ accidents: Man killed by falling wood

On Behalf of | Sep 20, 2018 | Construction Workers' Accidents |

When working in building construction, workers are aware that there are safety risks all around them. Whether it is unstable work environments, the large equipment they work with or dangerous tools, there are many ways to suffer an injury on a construction site. When construction workers’ accidents occur, employees may need to file a claim through the state-managed workers’ compensation program to aide in associated costs. Sadly, one California family may be filing their own claim following the death of their loved one while at work.

The man was employed by a company completing construction on multiple residential buildings. Reportedly, he was sitting on a stack of lumber next to a large pile of plywood. For unknown reasons, the pile of plywood became unstable, and some fell on top of the worker.

Sadly, the worker suffered serious injuries and did not survive. The victim was 59 years old at the time of his death. As customary with most reported injuries that occur at work, especially ones that are fatal, the California Division of Safety and Health is investigating along with local authorities.

When a family loses a loved one suddenly, there is a lot of adjustment to handle. Some families may have to adjust to life without a loved one’s income. When construction workers’ accidents result in the death of a worker, some family members may qualify for workers’ compensation death benefits. The compensation will not replace the life of a loved one, but many families find it helps during the transition with him or her. California attorneys who are familiar with the system are glad to assist grieving families with filing a claim.
