Any kind of job that requires the use of a company or workplace vehicle out on public roadways can lead to injury or an accident without warning. No amount of training or planning can always prevent the actions of others on the road. This was proved very true recently for a California postal worker as she was injured on the job when hit by another vehicle.
The incident started as a 13-year-old boy took his sister’s pickup truck without getting her permission to do so. The boy drove the truck through an intersection and collided with a postal service van. The female postal worker was ejected from the van upon impact.
The postal worker was transported to a hospital and was said to be in serious condition. The boy initially fled the scene, but then was apprehended later. The 13-year-old faces charges of felony hit-and-run charges for the incident. He is now back in his parents’ custody as the worker continues to recover.
The postal worker injured on the job may have to deal with mounting medical bills and may also have a long road to recovery ahead of her. The lost wages someone has to contend with while hospitalized can have a very real and immediate effect on their finances. While the postal worker would likely be covered under the Federal Employee’s Compensation Act, other California workers injured on the job are protected by state workers’ compensation laws that will ensure those medical bills or lost wages do not have a permanent impact on his or her life.
