Worker dies after being injured on the job at airport

On Behalf of | Dec 11, 2014 | Workplace Accidents |

There are a wide array of jobs and responsibilities at the nation’s airports. When any maintenance is done or construction work is performed at an airport in California or elsewhere, it may be necessary for temporary workers or subcontractors to be called in for certain services. If one of these temporary workers or subcontractors is injured on the job, or worse, they too are entitled to workers’ compensation benefits.

Paving work was being done at an airport in early December, when a concrete paving vehicle injured a worker. Reports did not include information explaining exactly what happened or how the worker was injured. However, the man was treated at the scene of the accident and did not survive the injuries he sustained.

The state’s transportation authority is investigating the incident that led to the worker’s death. The site of the accident was closed down while an investigation unfolded. It is not known whether the shut down is impacting the airport’s day-to-day operations.

When a California worker is injured on the job and dies as a result of those work-related injuries, the cost to the family of the worker may be overwhelming and a difficult burden to bear, especially if that worker was the primary breadwinner in his or her family. Workers’ compensation benefits can be a much-needed aid as the family deals with the burden of debt or lost wages that result after a worker dies. If a family is unsure of the benefits for which they qualify or believe they are not receiving the benefits they are due, seeking legal help is an option.
