Hot glass causes serious work injury

On Behalf of | Apr 14, 2015 | Industrial Workers' Accidents |

The dangers of working with glass go far beyond the risk of getting cut. Hot glass can be an extremely dangerous thing with which to work, especially for a worker new to the industry. Any California worker who works with extreme heat and glass combined may want to take heed of the dangers after a worker in another state was severely burned from a work injury he suffered.

The incident happened in the evening as the man was at his work station. The man worked near the hot glass and there was a flare up of some kind. His clothes caught on fire and the worker ended up with burns reportedly on 80 percent of his body.

The worker was transported by air to a medical facility with a burn unit. He was said to have been at the company for right around six months. The company has had injuries in the past that have drawn attention from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. In fact, the company has been cited 20 times for serious violations in the last five years and heavy fines have been imposed.

The seriousness of the citations and fines may help the victim of the work injury get the benefits and compensation that he is entitled to receive. In cases like this with serious work injury burns, the worker may have to endure long periods of therapy, surgeries or other medical procedures. In California, workers’ compensation should cover medical needs. Additional benefits could help those affected by a work injury get the financial help they need while they are unable to work.
