Work injury occurs at construction site in Freetown

| Sep 17, 2015 | Industrial Workers' Accidents |

In many lines of work in California, employees expose themselves to danger and physical harm on a daily basis. Whether operating heavy machinery or performing their job’s responsibilities in hostile environments, these individuals’ chances of suffering a work injury is greatly heightened in these workplaces. One of the most dangerous environments to work in is construction. This has been evidenced by a recent construction accident that sent one man to the hospital.

The accident occurred in Freetown on a recent Tuesday morning in September, according to fire officials. A 52-year-old man suffered a very serious leg injury when a construction vehicle rolled over on him. This pinned the man’s left leg beneath the tremendous weight of the vehicle.

According to the police, the accident occurred when the man backed the 8,000 pound excavator off its trailer and the machine flipped over, landing on the man’s leg. A nearby business used its forklift to lift the vehicle off of the man’s leg, at which point firefighters were able to slide him out of the cab. Although the man’s injuries were suffered solely in his lower left leg, the severity of the injuries required him being rushed to a local medical center.

Individuals in California who are employed in any type of construction work know that their jobs often come with inherent hazards as well as a higher chance of being involved in an accident. However, this does not affect the rights of these construction workers if and when they suffer injuries in a work-related accident. Those who suffer a work injury are entitled to financial compensation that can be used to help them with medical bills, rehabilitation costs and lost pay.
